Heart and blood vessels

14 in Core

The particles and proteins behind long-term heart and artery health, including ApoB and Lipoprotein(a).

Apolipoprotein BA protein carried by every particle that can deposit cholesterol in artery walls, so it gives a direct count of your artery-clogging particles.Lipoprotein(a)An inherited, LDL-like particle that raises the risk of heart attack, stroke and aortic valve narrowing. One test usually covers life.Measured onceBlood pressure, systolicThe top number in a blood pressure reading: the pressure in your arteries at the moment your heart beats and pushes blood out, measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg). Our nurse takes it with you seated and rested, before your draw.At your visitComing soonBlood pressure, diastolicThe bottom number in a blood pressure reading: the pressure in your arteries while your heart relaxes between beats, in mmHg. Our nurse takes it at the same time as the top number, before your draw.At your visitComing soonTriglyceridesThe main type of fat in your blood, used for energy. Levels reflect diet, alcohol, weight and how your body handles sugar and fat.HomocysteineAn amino acid made when your body processes protein. It is cleared with the help of folate, B12 and B6, so a high level often points to low B vitamins.HDL cholesterolThe cholesterol carried in HDL particles, which take surplus cholesterol back to the liver. Higher levels usually go with better metabolic health.Total cholesterolAll the cholesterol in your blood, carried in LDL, HDL and other particles. Its parts tell you more than the total.Apolipoprotein A-1Protective particles. In Performance

About the tests.

What does “calculated by Ayu” mean?

Some markers, like insulin resistance or the ratio of two cholesterol measures, come from combining results we already measure. Ayu works them out for you, so they add insight without another tube.

Why are some markers measured only once?

A few markers, like Lipoprotein(a) and your blood group, barely change over a lifetime. We measure them on your first draw and keep the result.

Do I need to fast?

Yes. Stop eating 10 to 12 hours before your visit. Water is fine.

Can I add a single test?

Not yet. Each panel is designed as a whole, so the results can be read in context with one another.
